  • (Posted 09/25/2011) Latest Development On Alcoa Relicensing
An interesting article was published on September 22, 2011 by The Carolina Journal. Reporter Don Carrington is one of the most through and respected investigative journalists in North Carolina. Perhaps the long fight for the new license may be nearing an end. According to this article, it seems as though the Governor has finally realized she has been on the wrong side of the battle. The personal vendetta’s and greed of a few Stanly County folks and a couple of Senators is finally being seen for what it is, as they continue to resist a great offer by Alcoa to get new jobs for the area.

After hearing statements from the HRLA and Stanly County, and having quite a bit of discussion on the Bill, and vote of 8 -6 against it seems to at least put the Bill on hold. Here is the full text of the statement by Larry Jones, made at the opening of the hearing...

  • (Posted 04/08/2009) In the past two weeks legislation has been introduced in the NC Senate proposing a State take-over of the Yadkin Lakes, including High Rock. Our Governor has presented a motion to FERC, opposing the Relicensing Settlement Agreement, and the benefits we’ve worked so long to achieve. The HRLA believes these actions will have very negative consequences to our lakes and to North Carolina taxpayers. Please read the attached review of the proposed legislation, and let your elected representatives know what you think of this idea...
